Camp Overview
The Nelson SMU Girls Residential Overnight Camp is a 3 night, 4 day immersive camp designed for girls age 10 – 14 (5th - 8th Grade as of Fall of Camp Year) who want to participate in a challenging but fun soccer experience. Once at the Nelson SMU Girls Soccer Camp, players will be broken into teams based on age and skill level. Campers will take part in daily training sessions designed to develop their technical skill and grow their tactical knowledge of the game. In the evenings, campers will have the opportunity to apply their new skills while competing with their teams in nightly matches. This camp is perfect for both individual campers and teams looking to develop in a fun competitive environment.
Goalkeepers: Specialized goalkeeper training will be offered at the Residential camp. Campers will have the option to attend goalkeeper sessions that will focus on both technical skill and tactical decision-making development. In the evenings, campers will get to put their goalkeeper skills to the test in daily scrimmage matches. If your camper is developing both as a field player and a goalkeeper, then they will have the option to participate on both field player and goalkeeper sessions. The following goalkeeper topics will be covered over the course of the week: footwork & basic handling, shot stopping with emphasis on diving, dealing with high balls and crosses, 1v1s, and distribution.
Our Residential Camps are located on our beautiful SMU Campus. Camper check in and pick up is located in the Northeast concourse of Ford Stadium (5800 Ownby Drive). Camps will be conducted on both the Washburn Stadium Field and Pettus Practice Field. In the event of inclement weather, we will access our state of the art Indoor Performance Center, located directly to the west of Washburn Stadium. More detailed information regarding location, parking, and the camper check in and drop off process will be sent shortly before each camp session begins.
Our campers stay in one of our SMU dorms and eat their meals in one of our SMU dining facilites for all 3 daily meals. Campers are placed 2 to a dorm room, with a communal bathroom on each wing. There is a place on the camper registration form to list your roommate preference. Please make sure that both campers list their roommate preference. We do everything possible to honor roommate requests. In addition, we try to group teams on the same floor/hall.
